Jace Bessey surpassed 1,000 career points during the second quarter of the Phoenix’s (2-0) victory over the Bulldogs in Jay.
Bessey, a senior, entered the season needing 40 points to reach 1,000. He put up 28 points in the season-opening win over Boothbay on Friday, then scored 20 against Hall-Dale.
Cai Dougher added 19 points for Spruce Mountain (2-0). Hunter Buote finished with 11 and Dylan Jewett had 10.
Matt Waller led the Bulldogs (1-1) with eight points, while Karter Eldridge, Keegan Cary and Greyson Cary each scored seven.
