Tuesday, June 11, 2024
YORK 18, BRUNSWICK 3
Junior Quinn Walenton scored four goals and added three assists, helping power top-seeded the top-seed Wildcats (15-1) to a win over the fifth-seeded Dragons (9-8) at Hoch Field in Gardiner.
York, which will play the winner of the No. 2 Messalonskee-No. 3 Yarmouth matchup in the state final Saturday at Portland’s Fitzpatrick stadium, has won 14 straight games dating back to an 11-10 loss at Cape Elizabeth on April 22.
Brunswick got two goals from Robert Bowen in the loss, though the Dragons were never within reach after falling behind 5-0 in the first quarter and trailing 9-1 at halftime.
York controlled all facets of the game, winning 20 of 23 face-offs and holding the 36-15 edge in groundballs controlled.
Evan Anastas and Hayden Forbes each added two goals in the win for York, which won last season’s Class B title with a win over first-time state finalist Messalonskee.
