A 13-0 first-half run helped Yarmouth’s fifth-seeded girls’ basketball team pull away for a 52-23 victory over No. 4 Mountain Valley in a Class B South quarterfinal Saturday afternoon at the Portland Expo.

The Clippers (11-8) got 12 points from Katelyn D’Appolonia, 10 from Margaret McNeil and a combined 17 points from reserves Ava Feeley and Maya Panozzo as they advanced to face either No. 1 Freeport or No. 8 Cape Elizabeth in the semifinals Tuesday at the Expo.

The Falcons led early, 7-2, but Yarmouth went on top to stay on a free throw from D’Appolonia, who had eight points and three assists in the first quarter. By quarter’s end, Yarmouth led 16-10.

Panozzo and Feeley helped the Clippers extend the advantage to 19 points at halftime, as Panozzo’s 3-pointer just before the horn gave Yarmouth a 30-11 lead.

Mountain Valley got as close as 15 in the third quarter, but the Clippers closed on an 11-1 run.

The Falcons (10-9) were paced by eight points from Kierstyn Lyons and seven apiece from Autumn Freeman and Rylee Sevigny.
