The second-seeded Mustangs used a five-run fifth inning to break a deadlock against seventh-seeded Greyhounds in a Class C South quarterfinal played at Kents Hill School in Readfield.

Monmouth (16-1) struck first with a run in the bottom of the first, but Lisbon (12-6) scored in the top of the third to even the game at 1-1.

Kyle Palleschi earned the win with two shutout innings of relief, allowing one hit and three walks while striking out one batter. Starter Sam Calder gave up three hits in three innings and fanned four. Isaac Oliveira closed out the win with two more shutout innings of relief, also allowing just one hit to go along with three strikeouts.

Luke Harmon drove in two runs and scored one for the Mustangs. Matt Marquis and Oliveira also collected RBIs. Marquis scored two runs.

Levi Tibbetts pitched all six innings for the Greyhounds. He concluded his standout multisport high school career by striking out eight batters and walking two while allowing three earned runs on seven hits.

Jimmy Fitzsimmons drove in Brayden Decato to score Lisbon’s lone run. Decato had a double.

Monmouth will face No. 11 Spruce Mountain in the semifinals on Saturday.
