James Saccuzzo scored 10 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter as the sixth-seeded Mustangs (7-10) upset the third-seeded Spartans (10-6) in a Class AA South quarterfinal at Sanford.
The game was close throughout, but Massabesic opened some breathing room when Saccuzzo got eight straight points midway through the fourth. The Mustangs held on from there as they advanced to the semifinals next Thursday against No. 2 Thornton Academy at Cross Insurance Arena.
Isaiah Searles added eight points and Jake Raymond had seven for Massabesic.
Sanford got 14 points from Justin Kennedy and 13 from Connor Curcio.
