CAPE ELIZABETH 12, MT. ARARAT 0, 5 INNINGS
-
Anna Cornell pitched and batted Cape Elizabeth to a 12-0 victory over Mt. Ararat in an interclass game called after five innings because of high school softball’s 12-run mercy rule.
Cornell allowed just one hit – a fourth-inning lead-off single by Jaimey Weidner – and struck out 11 to help the Capers improve to 5-0 in Class B South. She also drove in five runs with a triple and two singles. Her fifth-inning single drove in Julia Torre with the game-ending run.
Cape Elizabeth twice batted around the order, scoring five runs in the third and fourth innings.
Dana Schwartz, Kathryne Clay and Abigail Scifres each had two hits for Cape Elizabeth. Mt. Ararat dropped to 1-2 in Class A North.
