SCARBOROUGH 9, THORNTON ACADEMY 6

Five players scored as Scarborough’s boys’ lacrosse team overcame a slow start and defeated Thornton Academy, 9-6, in a Class A South quarterfinal Wednesday night.

Scarborough (10-3) will face No. 1 Berwick Academy (12-1) in the semifinals Friday.

The fourth-ranked Red Storm took an early lead on Jeremiah Park’s goal, but the fifth-seeded Golden Trojans (8-5) answered on goals from Caleb Pelletier and Ronan Flynn to lead 2-1 after one quarter.

Scarborough then dominated the second quarter, taking a 6-3 halftime lead. Owen Leadley tied it, Tae Delaware put the Red Storm ahead to stay, and after Quinn Fogarty and Flynn traded goals, Finn Pedersen and Park padded Scarborough’s lead.

Leadley and Pedersen extended the margin early in the third quarter before Ethan LeBlanc snapped Thornton’s 18-minute scoring drought.

Leadley’s third goal made it 9-4 before John Elliopulos scored twice for Thornton.

Josh Medeiros made eight saves for the Red Storm, while Seth Fournier stopped seven shots for the Golden Trojans.
