RUMFORD — Rylee Sevigny scored two goals and Leigha Carrier tallied what proved to be the winning goal as top-seeded Mountain Valley dominated the second half to defeat No. 8 Traip Academy, 5-1, in a Class C South field hockey quarterfinal on Wednesday.

The two teams battled to a 1-1 tie at halftime on goals by Traip’s Elly Young and Mountain Valley’s Ariana Viger. Carrier put the Falcons (12-3) in front for good early in the second half and opened the flood gates for both of Rylee Sevigny’s goals and one by her sister, Avery Sevigny, who also had two assists.

Traip goaltender Nicole Roberts made 21 saves.

Cloe Ledesma and Faith Riddick each added an assist for the Falcons, who outshot the Rangers, 26-2 and had 10 penalty corners to none for Traip. Nora Tag made one save for Mountain Valley, which will host No. 5 St. Dom’s in the semifinals.
