WELLS 12, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 6: Matt Tufts’ triple to the base of the center-field fence in the bottom of the third started a four-run inning that propelled top-seeded Wells (16-2) past No. 5 Mountain Valley (12-6) in a Class B South semifinal at Wells.
Tufts scored on a single by Tyler Carpenter, and Michael Wrigley (three hits) added a two-run single as Wells quickly responded to a three-run rally by Mountain Valley in the top of the third that cut the Warriors’ lead to 4-3.
Cam Cousins (9-0) picked up the win, allowing four runs in four innings. Gary Andrews worked three innings of one-hit scoreless relief.
Tyler Bridge had two hits and two RBI, and leadoff batter Liam Bell scored four runs for Wells, which will face Greely in the regional final Wednesday at St. Joseph’s College.
Garrett Garbarini drove in two runs for Mountain Valley.
