Starter Cameron Birks went 2 for 3 with a walk and run scored and allowed two earned runs on seven hits as the 14th-seeded Yachtsmen (4-12) upended the third-seeded Red Storm in a Class A South opening-round contest at Scarborough.
Falmouth scored an unearned run in the first and added a run in the second on Emily Charest’s double, but Scarborough answered with a run in the bottom of the second.
Leading 3-2 after six innings, the Yachtsmen got some insurance from Valentina Van Zandt’s two-run double in the seventh.
Matty Cooney, Natalie Fortier and Miranda Birks each added two hits for Falmouth, which advances to the Class A South quarters.
